After we left Florence, we headed to Assissi. It did NOT disappoint! Our hotel was lovely - right among the historic buildings but with all the amenitites! We were only there for a quick stay - one night, but I am so glad we made Assissi a stop on the trip!

Of course, the main attraction for many is to visit the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assissi - the Basilica di San Francesco. It was extraordinary! Basically, it was an upper and lower basilica. Saint Francis' tomb is also there as well as many artifacts of his. To be clear, I know only a very little bit about St. Francis other than he is the patron saint of animals and the environment. But Assisi is a pilgrimage point for many Catholics. The cathedral was intricately painted and detailed. Photos were not allowed inside the basilica though. Trust me, it was stunning!

After checking into our hotel, we decided to first take a look at the basilica. Next, we stopped for a snack and then Chris went back to the hotel for a bit because he brought the bags up all the hills from the parking garage, and I headed for a walk around town. The town of Assisi is absolutely stunning. It one of the most charming old towns I have ever been in. There are literally picturesque scenes around every corner! It is, however, super hilly so everything is climb!
Once I made it back to the hotel, we got ready for dinner. It was near sunset so I grabbed a view pics of the basilica and then we headed to the main piazza of the town.
We ate one of the restaurants in the piazza and there happened to be a concert that night. The musicians and the singer were very, very good! And the crowd loved them! People were dancing, singing along and clapping. Such a good time!
The next morning, we packed up, had breakfast at the hotel and headed to Rome!
