About a year and a half ago, our Nutter Butter decided to give up soccer because, well, because let's just be honest, ballet is her passion. She fell into soccer by default really, her older sister played... a lot! So she was carted along to field after field, and it seemed the natural progression for her to play. Don't misunderstand, she very much enjoyed soccer but as she got older, the demands of a serious ballerina and travel soccer player just don't match up. She, of course, chose ballet. And rightly so, it's where her heart is. I think the choice was harder on mom and especially dad, than it was her. Why? Because she was always so doggone good at soccer. And as parents, we didn't want her to have to chose. Why can't kiddos just enjoy as much as possible?
In our home state, students can't play school sports until 7th grade. This year marked grade number seven for our Nutter Butter. And as a 7th grader, she decided to try out for her school soccer team. She had a few misgivings - mainly a fear that it might interfere with ballet; however, I assured her that we could make it work and that I thought it was important for students to feel as if they are a part of something at their school.

It's surprising how much ballet helps improve soccer skills! |
Selfishly, it's so much fun to see her back on the field. I missed being a soccer mom, but regardless of getting to be a soccer mom or not, I will support this sweet girlie and will always be her biggest cheerleader in all her endeavors!
