Nutter Butter Grad Trip - Day 2

We said goodbye to The Asticou Inn this morning. The girls decided that they didn't exactly appreciate the Inn's vintage charm! At some point in the night, the old Inn's creaks and groans, as well as the heavy rain through the night, translated as "scary" and they all ended up in the same room of their suite huddled together. After talking with them on the car ride today, they think maybe the Inn is haunted. They definitely weren't super well-rested today!

I love how they had keys instead of cards!

We had breakfast at the scary hotel and then headed to make our reservation to drive up to the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. The morning was even foggier than yesterday and I was concerned we would be leaving Acadia without the great views. We drove to the top and decided to give it a bit of time to see if it had cleared. The summit was super windy so I was hopeful (and sending up prayers) that the fog would lift. In the meantime, we walked some trails and search for the summit marker.

This is a TERRIBLE pic but shows you just how windy it was!

Finally, we started seeing glimpses of sunshine and occasional clearings in the fog! Eventually, the fog completely lifted and the views were phenomenal!!

We all still searched for the summit marker and Chris finally found it! Cadillac Mountain is the highest summit on the Eastern Seashore. At certain times of the year, it is the first place you can view the sunrise in the US!

At the summit!

Since the fog had cleared, we opted for another drive on Park Loop Road and made another stop at Thunder Hole. Again, the views were amazing! And... "thunder" was definitely more abundant! We all tried touching the water as the tide came in. Definitely MUCH colder than our NC Atlantic waters!

I Spy.. my Guy!

A little pool of water, which is so clear you can't even see it in the pic, filled with clams!

There is so much more in Acadia that I would like to see and do, but this isn't my trip, it's our Nutter Butter's and it was time to move on. We got on the road to head to Boston after some lunch.

On the way, we stopped in Freeport, Maine at the flagship store of L.L. Bean by Chris' request. It was huge! And really more like a complex instead of a store. Freeport was also a very cute town and I would definitely consider revisiting.

One of the things I have enjoyed so far on this trip is the girls in the car! I just love how they all three get along and have fun together! I hope they are making memories they will carry for a lifetime!

We rolled into Boston around sunset. And I am looking forward to two nights in the same spot!
