Common LAX terminology includes:
crease - circle area around the goal
cradling - rocking the stick back and forth in order to keep the ball in the stick pocket
scooping - the way a player picks up loose ground balls
man down - a team has lost a player to the penalty box and must play with one less player
Only this season at my kiddos high school, the term could just as easily be "woman down." My #1 and #2 kiddos, senior and freshman respectively, are playing on the same LAX team this season. What's weird about that? Well, their school only offers men's LAX and since this is the case, girls interested in playing (insert my girlie) must be given the opportunity to tryout for the men's team. Yep, it's true. It's a first for the Patterson family - sister and brother taking the same field. She's getting quite a bit of attention as a result of her new sports interest and he's doing a great job being the supportive brother. I couldn't be more proud of both of them! She's my trailblazer, #18, and he's my gracious guy, #31, letting her have her senior moment! I'm so incredibly glad that I get to be their mom!
Can you say penalty? |
Yep - she's getting ready to kick the ball! #soccerplayertothecore |
